Mt Buller Fire Safety Preparedness & Clean-Up Weekend – 18 & 19 November 2023

With the declared fire danger period approaching, ARV would like to invite all property lessees to take part in the annual Fire Ready Weekend. Property lessees are responsible for preparing their properties for the fire danger period.

Green Waste Collection

Over the clean-up weekend trimmed grass, leaves, and foliage from property sites can be left by the curbside for collection by ARV staff. Only green waste left on the curb during the weekend (Nov 18-19) will be collected. Please do not leave green waste after this weekend as it will not be collected and detract from the beauty of our Village.

Tree Pruning

ARV can facilitate appointments with a qualified local arborist to assist with tree pruning for a fee of $500 per hour (inc GST). Bookings are essential and can be in blocks of 30 minutes, 1 hour, or more. A minimum of 8 appointments are needed for this service to be viable. To book, please email info@mtbuller.com.au to reserve your spot before Wednesday, 15 November 2023.

Practical Fire Ready Tips

· Cut/whipper-snip long grass

· Remove wood and rubbish (flammable or not) from around your building

· Do not stack firewood on or under timber balconies

· Close all property windows and doors

· Reduce gaps in your building (i.e. seal up any holes in eaves and cladding)

· Rake up areas of fine fuel such as leaf litter and bark

· Remove fallen limbs and twigs

Vegetation Management Activities

Specific permission must be obtained to carry out works outside of that listed above. For advice, information, and support on vegetation removal permissions, please contact Ali Kirkwood (Environmental Services Officer) via email to ali.kirkwood@mtbuller.com.au.

Hard waste

To support Mt Buller properties and businesses in disposing of items that cannot be left in Mt Buller’s 45 recycling drop zones (or rubbish huts), ARV has organised a hard waste weekend when these items can be delivered to the Boggy Corner Waste Transfer Centre between 10 am - 2 pm on 18 & 19 November. Further information about what items are accepted and applicable fees can be found here.

Please DO NOT put hard waste in village waste huts or on the curbside. This is illegal dumping and fines and penalties apply.

Are you fire ready?

The best thing you can do to be fire ready, wherever you live, is to prepare a plan. Download the CFA Fire Ready kit here for help to prepare your plan. Read the CFA Guide to Survival leaflet here. The resort’s Community Bushfire Management Plan can be accessed here.
